Seniors Hike for Health - Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve
It's wildflower season and all around the Bay Area wildflowers will begin to bloom! Our absolute favorite spot to view wildflowers up close is a closed preserve called Coyote Ridge, located on the Diablo Range to the east of Coyote Valley in South San Jose this region is special because of its grassland habitat and serpentinite soil. Once hiked by John Muir who wrote of the beautiful colors and singing larks, we get to enjoy this spectacular specimen of nature today thanks to Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority who manages the property. We do have a special permit to take you to the top, cutting out 2-miles of uphill making it a friendly hike even families can enjoy! What's to be seen? Beautiful displays of wildflowers, gorgeous serenading birds and if we are quiet, we may have the chance to see the majestic herd of Tule elk, a California badger or even a rare roadrunner. Bring a lunch and sit among the flowers and serpentinite outcrops overlooking the stunning and scenic view of San Felipe Valley.
